Unit 68 - 3D Environment Test

Back to 3DS Max:

First thing we were taught upon our return to 3D Studio Max, we were taught the basics on how to create landscapes using a 2D bitmap crated in Photoshop,  exporting it to 3D Studio Max as a bit map, and using tools such as Displace, Decay, and Strengthen in order to create a decent landscape.

Logos and Fonts

Logos:

Logo concepts, due to the name, ended up with me attempting to draw a singularity in the pixel style.

The first couple of attempts were just trying to draw various representations of singularity, with less than stellar results.

In the end, i couldn't get it right.

So as a compromise the third logo, bottom right, ended up being a 'black hole' in a slightly pixel style, 'consuming' the actual borders of the logo, which is being 'consumed' in a pixel style. The name 'Pixelarity' would be in the blank space, but it was a little difficult recreating the preferred font using pencil and paper.

Fonts:

The fonts had to match the theme of retro-ness, which resulted in the 6 different styles being experimented with by using the team name.

My personnel favorite is the second from the bottom, mostly due to aesthetics, along with things such as it being easy to read, standing out, and so on.

Unit 73 - Science of Sound

Wavelength - The distance between successive crests of a wave, esp. points in a sound wave or electromagnetic wave.

Amplitude - The maximum extent of a vibration or oscillation, measured from the position of equilibrium.

Frequency - The rate at which something occurs or is repeated over a particular period of time or in a given sample.

Decibels - A unit used to measure the intensity of a sound or the power level of an electrical signal by comparing it with a given level on a logarithmic scale.

Unit 75 - Human Computer Interface Progress

Progress of the HCI has been coming along. Most of the progress made so far involved coding and assigning the created code to various buttons so scenes could be jumped to.

After the initial instructions, writing the script for the actions; such as stop, swapping scenes, and various assignments were created in a trial-and-error fashion.

So far, 3 buttons have managed to be linked, with 4 scenes being interwoven, with the only negative thing, in a sense, is the repetitiveness that comes along with it.

Style:

The interface has been created to resemble an old fashion, framed photograph one would find in an old fashioned building. The reason for this is that the theme is about Saltaire, specifically, its Mill town feel.

Designing a Map

For a project, we are required to create an animated map for a tourist attracion based on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. On the map, 14 points of interest along 3 different routes have to be added. The task set involved choosing 3 points on the 3 routes and posting an image:

Unit 13 Professional Practice - Showreel Review

The purpose of the Digital Showcase:
The Digital showcase was created to advertise the Media - Games Development Course to potential student, as well as professional games developers in the hopes to prove that the current students would be able to work for them. The work that was shown on a multitude of formats. The year two students had their final game trailers exhibited on the board in the front of the classroom, whilst year one students had work of our choice on A1 sized boards all around the classroom.
